Grade 7 Units

These students can be expected to understand and recognize the major uses of the computer. The students will be using E-mail during the year, but no unit has been designated in teaching new concepts. The students will review copyright laws and privacy implications with computers. They will also review keyboarding and keyboard shortcuts. The students will continue to work with application programs such as word processing and graphics. They will be introduced to the combination of word processing and graphics in desktop publishing. They will also be introduced to the basic concepts of a spreadsheet. They will begin to look at CyberCrime in society and what can be done about it.

Comments

Try to bolster the attitudes to keyboarding by keeping this unit short.

Comments

Just review shortcuts and make sure that all students have a basic library of shortcuts that they use. Encourage students to share favorite shortcuts.

  • Students will create clip art by scanning images.
  • Students will import images from one of the digital cameras.

Comments

Students should create several images which can be used in the following unit. These images should be saved in their folders. Have the students use both of the modules. Try not to use only one module for all of the images. This unit could be combined with several art units. If using ClarisWorks 2.0, the paint module has a transform menu with a variety of special effects. If students have problems with perspective or shading these tools may help them visualize these techniques.
